Fixed – ‘Your mailbox has been temporarily moved to Microsoft Exchange Server’

Read time 7 minutes

Microsoft Outlook is popular with enterpries as it offers Exchange connectivity, which is crucial for enerprise-level email communication. So it is an integral part of modern working environments. Also, it supports Microsoft’s own cloud platform (Office 365) for emailing.

Method – 1. Enable the Cached Exchange Mode

  1. Exit Outlook and open Control Panel; click the Mail option.
  2. Click the E-mail Accounts button.
  3. Select the account and double-click It.
  4. Check the option Use Cached Exchange Mode.

Note: If it’s already enabled, you can disable it and enable it again after restarting Outlook.
  5. Restart the Outlook and see if the profile gets opened.
  1. Exit Outlook and start Control Panel. Click the Mail option.
  2. Click the Show Profiles button.
  3. Select the account which is facing the problem and click the Remove button.
  4. There will be a caution message:
‘Careful, if you remove this profile, offline cached contents for its accounts will be deleted.’
    Click the Yes button.
  5. Follow the same procedure for each account, leaving the primary profile.
  6. Start the Outlook and see if it works.
  1. Exit Outlook and start the Control Panel. Here, click the Mail option.
  2. Click E-mail Accounts.
  3. Click the New icon.
  4. Input the details for the new account and click Next.
  5. After creating the account, you can delete the previous account and use the current account as the default. Furthermore, you can go to the Mail option and choose the option to ‘Always use this profile.’ Select the account you have created. Click OK.

ScanPST is an inbuilt repair tool which scans the PST file and repairs it for minor errors. You can run the ScanPST application from its location and scan quickly. But it is essential to take a backup of the PST file before using the ScanPST because the tool can delete some data from the mailbox and restore the remaining data. It will allow you to use the account, but the deleted data will not come back.

There may be some unnecessary add-ons which may be stopping the opening of Outlook. The user should disable these add-ons one by one and check if the account gets opened.

There are some anti-malware software(s) which checks the incoming messages to your account and stops them if they are fishy. It also checks the mailbox content and deletes the harmful messages. You can disable this anti-malware software or prevent them from blocking the messages.
After using these troubleshooting methods, you will be able to operate Outlook again. But there are many chances that you have to either lose the mailbox data or delete the account. To save the OST file data, use OST to PST conversion methods, such as, Kernel for OST to PST, which converts OST files to the PST and recovers the data. It is the best method to recover an OST file to PST format and get the entire data in full health. Another advantage of this tool is that you can save OST data directly to Office 365, Exchange Server, Gmail, or other popular destinations. So, this is the best tool for OST to PST conversion.

In the event that you are encountering the ‘the mailbox has been temporarily moved to the Microsoft Exchange server‘ error in Outlook 2013, it is possible that you can resolve the issue by making a few registry tweaks so that modAuth is supported.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps to modify the EnableADAL & Version values in Outlook 2013:

  1. Open the Run window by pressing Windows key + R. Then, type “regedit” into the text box and hit Enter.
  2. You will be prompted to grant admin access by the UAC (User Account Control). Tap on Yes.
  3. You can navigate to the following location once you’re inside the Registry Editor: HKCUSOFTWAREMicrosoftOffice15.0CommonIdentity. If you paste the address directly into the navigation bar and press Enter, you can also get to that location instantly.
  4. Inside the Identity key, click the EnableADAL button, set the value to 1 and the Base to hexadecimal. In case the value REG_DWORD is not created, create yourself by right-clicking on an empty space > New > Dword (32-bit) value.
  5. After that, double mouse click on the Version value & put the Base to Hexadecimal along with the Value data to 1.
  6. The changes will take effect once you restart your computer. Quit the Registry Editor and then restart your PC.

Besides corrupted data stored in the main AppData folder of Outlook, the ‘Your mailbox has been temporarily moved on a Microsoft Exchange server‘ error can also be related to problems with the Windows Registry.

Many users have had success renaming the existing Outlook folder in the AppData folder to force the application to create fresh folders when they encounter the same issue. Furthermore, if the operation does not succeed you will not have to worry about losing data.

To rename an existing Outlook folder, follow the steps below.:

  1. To open the Run dialog box, hold down Windows key + R. Now type up %appdata% in the box.
  2. Click OK to access the AppData folder. Please note that this folder by default is hidden.
  3. Within the AppData folder, you will find the Outlook entry. Select it and rename it.
  4. The next step is to rename the existing Outlook file with a ‘.old‘ extension so that the application will create a new folder.
  5. Start Outlook again at the next restart to see if the problem has been resolved or not.

Final Words

With an Office 365 account configured in Outlook, users may sometimes get an error:– ‘Your mailbox has been temporarily moved to Microsoft Exchange Server.’ It is a simple error that can be fixed by changing the Outlook profile or recreating it. But if Outlook users face an issue due to OST file inaccessibility, they can convert the OST file to PST.

Kernel for OST to PST converter tool needs only a minimum number of steps to convert the OST file, and it retains the whole data in the file without damage. The time of the conversion depends on the size of the OST file, and there is no limitation in recovering the file items. After retrieving the items, you can save them in a new PST file. This PST file can be imported to any new Outlook profile.

From corrupt emails to missing email data, we’ll review everything you need to know to get your Outlook 2019 system back up and running.

How to Fix Common Problems in Outlook 2019

Outlook 201 is a great email client; however, it can have several problems. From being unable to see old emails in your mailbox to Outlook crashing frequently, there are plenty of problems that may give users a headache. If you’re experiencing any issues with the software, this article covers some troubleshooting steps you can take to fix them.

What are some of the most common issues users experience when using Outlook 2019?

Some of the most common issues users face when using Outlook 2019 include: messages getting cut off in preview mode, Outlook 2019 being slow to respond when opening multiple emails at once, attachments not opening automatically, and the application crashing or freezing on start-up.

To fix these issues and troubleshoot others if they occur, follow these steps:

  • If Outlook is loading up slowly, freezing, or suddenly crashing on your computer, you can try clearing the cache (by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Del). Alternatively, you can uninstall/reinstall the application from its original location if possible (if you didn’t install it from the Windows Store).
  • If you’re having problems attaching files in Outlook, you could try checking for updates by going to ‘File’ -> ‘Options’ -> ‘Software Update,’ disabling Auto Update, etc.

How do I fix problems with my email account?

Here are the steps you can take to troubleshoot email-related issues:

  1. If you’re having problems accessing your emails on Outlook, check to see if you have a stable internet connection. If the problem persists, try signing into your account using a separate device or browser. If everything works okay on the other device or browser, try logging out of Outlook and back in on the previous device or browser.
  2. If you think your mailbox may have been compromised, try resetting your password and enabling 2-factor authentication to prevent potential data loss and revoke unauthorized access.
  3. If you’re not using your registered domain name, you may experience issues like failed password attempts and lost messages. To register a new domain name, please follow the steps outlined in Microsoft’s Documentation Page.

What should I do if my Outlook account gets hacked?

If your Outlook email account gets hacked, you should first visit the Microsoft support page and follow its instructions carefully. Doing this will help you to restore your account and reset any security questions that might be compromised. If repair or reinstallation of the email client does not help, you may need to use Outlook Recovery Toolkit (ORT). This tool can recover deleted email data, add email accounts, or repair damaged email files.

How can I fix problems with account settings and passwords?

Suppose you are having trouble logging in to your account or having issues with other security aspects, such as receiving emails or correspondence. In that case, it may be helpful to try resetting your password. To do this, open the “Accounts” menu on the main menu and click “Reset Password.” Doing this will prompt you for your current password and a new one. Use strong and unique passwords for all your accounts, especially email, social media, and bank accounts.

How do I troubleshoot an issue with Exchange Server?

The first thing you should do is check your server hardware and software version. If the server is up-to-date and the hardware functions correctly, you may be experiencing issues with file permissions, anti-virus scans, or rogue components. In some cases, users may experience mail getting stuck in transit, errors when creating or joining a domain, or lost messages. Troubleshooting steps for these issues may include checking permissions on files and folders, running anti-virus scans, verifying server hardware and software versions, checking for rogue components, etc.

Why is my email account not syncing with my Outlook 2019 calendar?

There are a few things that you can try if your email account and calendar are not syncing correctly.

  1. Try uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook 2019.
  2. Make sure you have selected the Default Email Account in Account Settings.
  3. If you’re using a Gmail or iCloud account, set up those accounts as your preferred email service in Outlook 2019.

How do I fix problems when signing into Outlook 2019?

How do I fix problems with attachment files in Outlook 2019?

There are some problems that users experience with attachment files in Outlook 2019. Common issues include attachment errors, lost attachments, and unable to save attachments.

To fix these problems, try the following steps:

  1. Ensure your email client is up to date and compatible with Outlook 2019. Updating your email client will help improve the compatibility of your file types with Outlook.
  2. Check for blocked extensions and add any unsupported ones as needed. By doing this, you may be able to fix attachments that aren’t working correctly.
  3. Try using different file types – if your attachment isn’t working well with a particular file type, try another format. If you’re still having trouble attaching PDFs or images, it may be because Outlook 2019 doesn’t support those file types. In that case, you’ll need to find a different email client that supports those file types.

Why is Outlook 2019 inbox not showing all my emails?

The most common reason Outlook 2019 inboxes may not display all your emails is due to one or more of your mailboxes being deleted or moved. If this is the case, then the email account is not configured correctly, and Outlook 2019 may not be able to see all your emails. Other reasons why Outlook 2019 inboxes might not be displaying all your messages include:

  • An error blocking the way Exchange Server sees your account (for example, if you’re using a shared mailbox)
  • If you’ve unsubscribed from some email newsletters and are still sending notifications to Outlook, those notifications will not appear in the inbox.

I can’t open or send emails – what can I do?

If you’re having problems opening or sending emails, here are a few steps that you can take to troubleshoot the issue.

  1. Disable popups, cookies, add-ons, and extensions: Often, these items can cause havoc when trying to open or send mail. By disabling them while troubleshooting, you may be able to get your mail working correctly again.
  2. Ensure your anti-virus and spyware software is up to date: Malicious software can sometimes interfere with email communications. By updating your anti-virus and spyware software, you may be able to detect and remove any malicious files that may be causing the issue.
  3. Try reverting to a previous version of Outlook: If you’ve already tried following all the steps listed above and still cannot send or receive mail, it may be time to revert to an earlier version of Outlook. This way, you can rule out any potential issues with your current settings.
  4. Contact your email provider: If you still cannot resolve the issue, please contact your email provider for support. They may be able to help with troubleshooting or provide you with a brand-new account that is more compatible with your email needs.

Is it possible to enable two-factor authentication for my Outlook account?

Yes, it is possible to enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for your Outlook account. 2FA means you will need to generate a recovery code if you lose access to your Outlook account or something goes wrong. You can then use the recovery code to sign into your Outlook account if you lose access to it.

What are some of the most common troubleshooting steps for Outlook 2019?

  • Checking if any updates are available for the software

Autodiscover is an Exchange server service which enables auto configuration of email clients (such as Outlook) in order to work with your email server via your email address.

In order for Outlook to use the Autodiscover service, the service has to be running and accessible over your current network connection. You can test whether your Autodiscover service is working correctly in either of two ways as follows:

Using PowerShell

The Test-OutlookWebServices cmdlet ships with your Exchange server installation and can be found at the following path:

5] Uninstall/Reinstall Office Outlook

This solution requires you to do either of the following:

  • Uninstall Outlook 2016 and then reinstall Outlook 2013 on your PC, if you upgraded to Office 2016 from a Microsoft 365 subscription.
  • Uninstall Office 2016 and reinstall Office 2013 Home and Business, Office 2013 Professional, or Outlook 2016 for Windows standalone if you previously had one of these earlier versions of Office on your PC.

This solution requires the Exchange Server upgraded to a newer version by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or company email server administrator. After the Exchange upgrade, you can reinstall Outlook 2016 for Windows 11/10.

You can also avoid these errors assuming you have multiple Outlook email accounts, and one of the accounts that isn’t your primary account is connected to an older Exchange server, you can remove the account from Outlook and then add/use the account to the Mail app or another email program on your system.
